Moon Phases Wrap – Wrapsody Luna

Wrapsody Luna Woven Moon Phases Wrap for babywearing

Wrapsody Luna shows all the phases of the moon across a royal purple and deep blue batiked galaxy background.

Changing phases are ironically the one consistency throughout motherhood and between families.

This moon phases wrap captures the beauty through all the phases our babies go through and put us through.

The moon is also an enduring symbol of femininity and I see this design representing phases of womanhood as well as motherhood.

You can get your Luna wrap right now!

Speaking of the phases of motherhood, here is Wrapsody Luna during pregnancy, babyhood, and toddlerhood:

There were so many beautiful suggestions for the name for this moon phases wrap.  I was tempted to go with one of the goddess names as was traditional for the original Bali Breeze wraps when they were still called Gypsymama.  And I loved several of the longer names like Clair de Lune.  But in the end, the simple Luna appealed to me the most.  I like how Wrapsody Luna sounds and looks.  And I think it’s more of a universally recognized name for a wrap with symbology that is important to so many different cultures and beliefs.

Thank you Amy, for suggesting the name, and you have won a Luna wrap of your own!  I’ve sent you an email so we can arrange shipping.

***ORIGINAL POST BELOW***

This moon phases wrap needs a good name worthy of the magical reputation of the moon.  Comment with your name suggestion and I whoever suggests the winning name will win of these Bali Breeze wraps with lunar phases!  Be sure to provide an email address that you check so that you will know if your name was chosen.  I’ll edit this blog post with the winning name next week.

For the record, this is a 100% cotton gauze wrap batiked in dark purple and pink in Bali under Fair Trade Conditions. The moons run lengthwise across the wrap, about 2/3rds of the way up from the bottom rail.

I give you through the weekend (through 20 October) to make your suggestions for this moon phases wrap!

  1. I would love to win this. My kids and I were just studying the phases of the moon last week. My name suggestion would be……la luna (The moon in Spanish)

  2. Mama of the Hunt (October is the Hunter Moon, and Artemis is the Goddess of the hunt, associated with the Moon) OR Huntress

  3. Can I enter multiple suggestions? 🙂
Cycles (I like how it is reminiscent of women’s cycles as well as cycles of life).
    or
    It’s Just a Phase
    or
This too Shall Pass, as so many a mama get caught up in the moment thinking the life is over and you are never going to get out of the diaper stage lol.. But that would remind her to enjoy her baby because this phase will not last forever and one day she will think back to this time as the happiest time of her life!

    Thank you for a chance!

  4. My first choice would be: Umbra
My second choice would be: Selene (or Juno) as they are both moon goddesses.

  5. A feminine name with a “moon” meaning seems a great fit for this one, and since I have a 7 year old called Aila, I’ll suggest Ayla! 😉 This form can carry a “moonlight” meaning in Turkish, which seems perfect.

My runners up were Luna, Chandra and Selene, all of which also have moon-related derivations.

  6. Name it “salutation” or “moon salutation”
The moon phases remind me of moon salutations that you do in yoga 🙂

  7. Someone suggested Celeste on the picture earlier. Well I am a little partial to this name lol! Celeste means “Heaven Sent” so that is my second suggestion. “Heaven sent” that is….

  8. Our 5th baby and first girl was born on the new moon after a dear friend’s premenition. We we were down to a few Greek goddess names on our girl list but then we new Artemis was perfect as she is the goddess of the moon, of childbirth, of midwives, maidens, and of the wild animals, etc. Additionally my YaiYa and PaPou gave me a gold medal from Greece for my 18th birthday which I had forgotten until 3 days until after she was born depicts the temple of Artemis and one of her symbols-a stag.

Her littlest big brother calls gave her the nick name Artemissy Blue or Artemis Blue and my mother calls her Moon Pie which would all fit too.

    Additionally I was thinking

Celestial Birth (Artemis is he goddess of childbirth, midwives, and the moon and our cycles and brith are tied to the moon)

    Wild Moon

    Journey of Artemis

    Celestial Hunt

Too many choices!! Must stop thinking! 😉

    Anyway

  9. “ALCMENE”

*** Latin form of Greek Alkmene, meaning “might of the moon.” In Greek mythology, this is the name of the mortal mother of Hercules by Zeus. ALKMENE (Ἀλκμήνη): Greek name meaning “might of the moon.” In mythology, this is the name of the mortal mother of Hercules by Zeus.

  10. Name: “Lunaira”
Meaning: french for “of the moon”, also a southeastern European plant cultivated for its purplish flowers and round flat papery silver-white seedpods that are used for indoor decoration.

This wrap is the color of this flower, the seedpods represent the moon and look very much like it.

  11. It’s a georgeous wrap. I’m sure whatever it is named will be great. Here are my ideas.

    Lunar Life

    Celestrial Cycles

    Heavenly Hug

    Moon Mystique

    Goddess Smiles

  12. Crescent Comfort

    OR

Fully a Phase (play on Full Moon, Phases of the moon, and that everything we, as parent’s, deal with that cause us to need our beloved wraps so much is a phase)

  13. I say Chandra! It means moon in Sanskrit. In Bali, they would spell it “Candra” and still pronounce it “chandra”. But you would probably want to use the “ch” so your customers would know how to pronounce it.

  14. I love the narrative below, so while it’s a long name I also like “Strive to be like the moon” for this wrap.

“We must strive to be like the moon.’ An old man in Kabati repeated this sentence often… the adage served to remind people to always be on their best behavior and to be good to others. [S]he said that people complain when there is too much sun and it gets unbearably hot, and also when it rains too much or when it is cold. But, no one grumbles when the moon shines. Everyone becomes happy and appreciates the moon in their own special way. Children watch their shadows and play in its light, people gather at the square to tell stories and dance through the night. A lot of happy things happen when the moon shines. These are some of the reasons why we should want to be like the moon.”

  15. Moonlit night

    Magical midnight moon

    Hypnotic Moon

    MoonFlower

Tanit moon -named after the roman goddess Diana… perfect fit-

Artemus moon which means diana in greek

  16. Selene/hecate/ artemis Greek goddess names for lunar deities think would go perfectly with this wrap. Definitely as the purple is very mystic purple.

Or syzygies which is an example of New moon and full moon.

But o like the idea of Greek goddess name which I’m sure has been suggested before but I woUlf love a new wrap for my baby so thought I would put my thought in. I love the sky especially the moon and stars x

  17. Well my ideas have already been suggested, but I will comment anyway as this is destined for our lending library:
    Artemis
    Ayla
    Milky Way Moonlight
    Night Sky
    Phases

  18. Diana- Goddess of the Moon
Serenity or Serena- Queen/Princess of the moon in the cartoon series Sailor Moon.

  19. Definitely a goddess name! Selene or Artemis would be the obvious choice, but using an Indonesian moon goddess would reflect Bali! I like both Silewe and Ratih. Anumati is also a beautifil name.

  20. I like:
    Artemis Moon
    Viva la Luna
Pamuy (water moon, Hopi, Native American)
    Lunar Reflections
    Tidal Pull
    Midnight Illumination
Deva (moon goddess in Hindu mythology)
    Miyu (beautiful moon, {japanese})
    Nokomis (daughter of the moon)
    Kamaria (like the moon)

  21. Many Moons

As in “I have carried you for many moons”, representing having our babies in our bellies and then in our arms (or wraps!).

  22. Lunation

    lu·na·tion (l-nshn)
    n.
The time that elapses between successive new moons, averaging 29 days, 12 hours, 44 minutes; a lunar month.

  23. Supernatural or Supernaturalis
    Ethereal Evenings
    Ethereal Tides

“It is a secret which every intellectual man quickly learns, that, beyond the energy of his possessed and conscious intellect, he is capable of a new energy (as of an intellect doubled on itself), by abandonment to the nature of things; that, beside his privacy of power as an individual man, there is a great public power, on which he can draw, by unlocking, at all risks, his human doors, and suffering the ethereal tides to roll and circulate through him: then is he caught up into the life of the Universe, his speech is thunder, his thought is law, and his words are universally intelligible as the plants and animals.”
    ― Ralph Waldo Emerson

  24. Heavenly Hecate (a Greek moon goddess)
Phases of Phoebe (another Greek moon goddess)
    Diana (Roman moon goddess)
