Rucksack with a ring (simple back carry)
If you already use a rucksack carry and you want to try something fancy, or you have sling rings and want to find some fun ways to use them, this is the perfect carry for you to learn. It’s simple and really pretty, too!
Let me show you how to do it in less than 5 minutes:
Woven Wrap Size for Rucksack with a Ring
This size 3 Girasol Sunset Rainbow wrap is 2 sizes smaller than my base size, or base -2.
This size 4 Girasol Sherwood wrap is 1 size smaller than my base size, or base -1.
This size 5 Girasol Rainbow Baby wrap is my base size.
More about Rucksack with a Ring
Rucksack is the first back carry that most parents learn because it is structurally simple (with only one layer), while requiring and teaching important back carry technique (positioning and tightening behind your back).
And Rucksack Carry remains a star in the world of back carries because it is a fast go-to back carry that can be done with a short wrap but can also be done (as rucksack with a tibetan finish) with a base size (full length) wrap, which is what most people have.
But the Rucksack straps are not always the most comfy and some people with narrow shoulders find they don’t stay in place.
This ring variation eliminates the uncomfortable straps, while distributing more of your baby or toddler’s weight across your chest.
The ring is also used to finish the carry so there’s no wrap around your waist and no bulky knot. Just pretty wrap tails flowing down from the cool looking ring finish!
Two more perks of the ring Rucksack variation
1: helps keep your baby positioned higher on your back so they have a view and
2: can be done with a shorter wrap since you don’t need enough length to tie a double knot at the end!
Wrap Sizing & what size to use for Rucksack Carry with a Ring
I’m using a size 4 Girasol Sherwood wrap, an exclusive design made for my store and one that I absolutely adore (I’m an earth tones kind of girl, most days). My base size is 5 (that’s the size I need to do full length carries) so this wrap is “base minus 1” which means one size smaller than my base size.
You can do this with your base size wrap and have longer flowing tails.
You can do it with base minus 1 or sometimes even base minus 2, with real short tails.
Your base size is the wrap size you need to do a Front Wrap Cross Carry but if you don’t know your base size, and don’t have a wrap to try out, you can use this guide to make a good guess at what your base size will be based on your t-shirt size:

Hi!
I got one of your rainbow baby wraps back in December, and I am sad to say that I havenāt really used it much because I feel like I canāt ever get it tight enough. Iām worried that I got a size too small, and I worry that it isnāt safe. I also am not in a financial position to be a member of the guild. I wonder if you can give me a quick word of advice or a suggestion? My baby is now 8 months and weighs 21 lbs!
