MYTH: Woven wraps aren’t big enough for plus size wrapping.
TRUTH: The versatility of wraps make wrapping a fantastic option for Mamas (and Papas) of ALL sizes:
- A Size 7 Woven Wrap (about 5.1 meters) will be just right for many plus size mamas and is a standard size stocked at most babywearing stores.
- Sometimes you can find wraps in extra large sizes. My exclusive Girasol wraps are available in sizes 8 and 9 and you can let me know if you ever want to special order a custom size.
- What’s more THERE ARE MANY CARRIES YOU CAN DO WITH A SHORTER WRAP!
Most of the photos on this page are clickable and will take you to wrap instructions for the carry pictured, or a similar one.
Many carries can be done with a shorter wrap, by moms of all sizes:

This is a sampling of pictures sent to me after one request on Facebook the other day. There are many more parents of all shapes and sizes wrapping their babies, and you can, too! Hopefully this gave you some ideas.
If you are a wrapping mama and don’t see a body type similar to yours represented, I’d love to have more volunteers to send me pictures!

I’d like to start wrapping my 3 year old daughter, she weights around 35 pounds. I am 5’7 260 lbs.
Please send me options and examples of wrapping technics that you’d recommend for us.
Autumn, I think you will both love it! I advise you to join my free wrapping facebook group where you can ask questions and get help from a friendly bunch, and where you can also access my Wrap With Confidence Workshop where I go over your sizing options. You can join at facebook.com/groups/wrapclubcommunity
I’m so grateful for the plus size section! I just want to ask some questions. Specifically, as a plus sized mom with a large bust, how do I ensure my baby is tight enough without squishing her. I’m really unfamiliar with the tension and pressure required for this.
I totally understand but just remember that your body is made for your baby and your baby is made to be on your body! It’s going to work perfectly (even if it takes a little practice).
If your baby is little, expect baby to sort of wrap around your breasts to lay their head on your chest above the fleshy part of the breasts. You want to make sure that baby’s chin is up off baby’s own chest (not curling forward) and the nose is clear, and you can see baby’s face at all times. You don’t want baby’s face covered by your body or by the carrier.
You’re going to want to get allll the slack out of the fabric so that it’s firmly holding baby to you but not squeezing uncomfortably. Think about even tightening more than getting it *tight*. Your baby shouldn’t be able to sag or sink into an unsafe position.
I highly recommend the Instagram account @plussizebabywearing to see lots of examples of baby’s wrapped and worn on plus size moms of different shapes and sizes so you can see how they fit together beautifully. The account is not still active, but is full of valuable posts that you can scroll through. While the guidelines for wrapping babies are the same no matter mom’s size, seeing it work can make a big difference and help you with the confidence that it’s going to work 🙂
I also highly recommend the IG account @wraps_slings_and_harmony as Theresa is actively teaching wrapping and is a wealth of wisdom: https://www.instagram.com/wraps_slings_and_harmony/
